WAR
AGAINST SLEEP: 'PLEASURE COMPLEX'

'Pleasure Complex' is
the much anticipated fourth War Against
Sleep LP. Released 19th July 2008
on our Silent Age imprint, via high quality mp3 download from
Bleep.com.
Recorded over two years in a stinking, mould infested dungeon
with zero budget, this album is just as symphonic and ambitious
as ever, but with a vast array of faulty vintage keyboards
and synthesizers replacing the borrowed orchestra and harmonising
choirs of the previous three albums. The sound is fizzing, electronic
and intense, and disconcertingly catchy.
Throughout the album the listener is the subject, addressed as
a hedonist on the brink of a massive psychological breakthrough.
We are invited to leave behind a carnival of desire and delight
in order to travel alone through a black hole into nothingness.
Metaphysical bedroom pop: only the mindscape of songwriter and
mystic Duncan Fleming is capable of such grand,
absurd gestures.
Nick
Talbot (Gravenhurst/Silent Age Records) says:
"I have spent many years tirelessly preaching the virtues
of War Against Sleep, the vehicle for the work of Duncan Fleming, the most talented, genuinely
eccentric and naturally gifted songwriter in England. 'Pleasure Complex' delivers
on every front; it is hilarious and disturbing,
it celebrates the domestic and invokes the apocalyptic. A gumshoe
homicide detective driven by the visions of Gurdieff;
the spirits of Alesteir Crowley and
William Blake emanating from the voices of 1970's Radio Luxembourg
disc jockeys; this is infectious pop music at its most authentically
strange and downright brilliant. So enamoured I was of the beautiful 'Longest River', I released a Gravenhurst
cover of it before the original version appears here. It is with
great pride that we are able to release 'Pleasure Complex' on
our Silent Age Records imprint via high quality mp3 download from
Bleep.com
from Saturday 19th July.
